US Graduate Programs in Automotive/Automobile Engineering

Master’s in Engineering & Technology Automotive Engineering is a sub discipline in the field of Engineering & Technology which focuses on designing new vehicles or finding ways to improve the current machine technology and systems.

The number of automotive engineers also known as mechanical engineers, are projected to grow 9 percent from 2016 to 2026. The need for design on the next generation of vehicles such as electric cars and vehicle systems will keep the career in demand.

Automotive mechanics courses help prepare students for a career as an automotive technician. In an automotive mechanics course, students learn both hands-on technical skills and the basic theory of mechanics.

Automotive engineers need good math skills. For instance, they use mathematics to calculate the stresses power trains and other parts have to withstand. They also have to understand and apply principles of physics and chemistry to properly design engines, electrical systems and other car components.

The curricula for Automobile Engineering include subjects such as:

  • Fluid Mechanics and Machinery
  • Manufacturing Methods
  • Strength of Materials
  • Engineering Thermodynamics
  • Heat Transfer and Combustion
  • Automotive Petrol Engines
  • Engineering Analysis and Numerical Methods
  • Automotive Design Engines
