Interdisciplinary courses- charm of U.S. Education

Indian students started exploring new arenas. Students study future skills and plan their course accordingly. 

Some of them try to deviate from the field of their Undergrad and aim at entering a new field at Masters level.

Students who plan in those lines must keep in mind that interdisciplinary courses will take them to new research fields but not to employment opportunities. 

This kind of freedom to choose a new field is a boon to the students. They must think creatively and learn new skills to enhance their knowledge. 

To enter a new discipline one must plan and prepare oneself with what is required to be a good-fit. 

The U.S.universities are doing wonderful world class research and are encouraging the students to meet new challenges in future.

Some of the following fields are attracting the attention of the students to experiment:

  • New fields for engineering students: Engineering students of core subjects like Civil, Mechanical, and Electronics are diverting towards Data science and AI. Here, the students who want to enter the Computer science field need not leave their core subject. They can think of interdisciplinary subjects like Design, Mechatronics and Electromechanical systems, and digital circuits skills. 
  • New fields for Life Sciences: Life Sciences students are interested in various fields like Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, and Microbiology. But the students of Biology are also expected to gain expertise in data science and analytical skills.
  • New fields for Pharmacy: Pharma students are now showing interest in the software field not completely deviating from the basic subject.Computer-aided drug discovery is a new fascinating field but it requires digital skills.
  • New fields for Business studies: Business analytics is another field many MBA students are interested in. 

Analytics in any subject requires knowledge of computer science and statistics. So, those who want to get into the analytics field must be ready with the required skills. 

Thus students must realise integrating the fields is possible but one should have a clear goal to achieve. Never should a student try anything just for getting easy employment. Experiment and explore new fields with a zeal to achieve great things to solve problems of a common man.

The combination of subjects is such that environmental science students can become journalists,

 Medical doctors can specialise in sports medicine. 

A librarian can become a data analyst and Robotics is a favourite for surgeons.

Architects can work on social problems and Agriculture students can do research on climate change. 

So, first, think about what you want to take away from your study program and give back to your community.
